Women + Wellbeing Interview #6. Life wisdom from the author of The Granny Who Stands on Her Head, an 82-year-old yoga practitioner who loves headstand.
I VERY much enjoyed reading this! I started yoga in my 40s, then took a teacher training course to learn more and hope that it keeps me as strong as you! I love that you walk so much, Ann! I would love to live in a walking town again one day. I walk as much as I can on our trails.
It's easy to walk a lot when you don't have a car and need to get about. I set the pedometer on my phone to 7000 (10,000 is a bit too much for me very often) and love the fact I get confetti when I hit that mark. I do once every two weeks or so, but get close much more often. As for doing yoga, just keep at it. You stay flexible and it feels good. I didn't used to be a 'pusher' of yoga, but I am now. It just makes you feel younger for so much longer.
I love this! Some of my most inspiring, lighthearted yoga students over the years have been retired women. I would always look at them and think, "When I get older, I would like to be like that!"
Sometimes, I look at myself in wonder because it is so far distant from what I expected old age to be like. But if you just keep doing all the things you like (including yoga, including sex, including whatever...) it doesn't feel strange, it feels normal. You can be like that! Just keep doing it, whatever it is!
It suddenly occurred to me today that I should go back to the sites where there were interviews with me to look at the comments. I think I did so right away and then life took over and I forgot (one of the hazards of being 80+ is that you forget a lot of things).
Thank you. I seem to be an inspiration to loads of people, but am not sure I like that. Do see my post "Just Keep Going". I wrote it in response to such comments.
Yup. It is that simple, although I must admit there are days when it feels damn hard. And thanks for re-stacking. That is my MOST read post, even though I have written on much sexier issues.

Thanks for reading Melissa! Teacher trainings are such wonderful, inspiring courses at any age 🙂.

I'm no longer ashamed about "pushing" yoga. It just works and it always makes you feel better :)
Nothing to be ashamed about there!

Me too! I love my retired (and even still-working) 60- and 70-year old students!

I just came back to this site to check comments and I have a feeling that I wrote a post "Just Keep Going" partly in response to them.
Incidentally, I now go to a new yoga studio and one of the teachers told me that the oldest student was 94, so I am just a baby!
This is absolutely wonderful! What an inspiration and I adore what you say about being a grandmother versus a mother! Beautiful reading xxx

Amazing article Ann. Thanks for writing and sharing. I love the advice just keep going. So simple.
