Testimonials
“I was struggling with chronic neck and back aches and pains. I have degenerative disc disease, three herniated lumbar discs, and arthritis in my hips. After working with Ashley for just four weeks, I have more flexibility in my spine and hips, and have strengthened my core muscles. The pain I have experienced in my neck and lower back is almost gone. I have learned healthier ways to sit, stand, and move my body.
As a result of my private lessons with Ashley, I have been able to learn yoga poses in a way that is safe and healthy for my back and body. After each yoga lesson, I feel calm, centered, relaxed, nurtured, and energized.
Ashley is a wise and gifted teacher. She breaks down poses into easily understandable steps. She is extremely knowledgable about health, wellness, the body, and the mind-body connection. She is positive, encouraging, and respectful of my body’s limitations. I look forward to meeting with her every week for my yoga lesson.”

“I have arthritis in both of my knees and have lower back issues (as result of a car accident in my youth). When I’ve been to yoga classes prior to working with Ashley I came away in pain and miserable. I now know the problem was I needed modifications to help with the poses (e.g., blocks and straps). Once I learned from Ashley what modifications I could use, I really started to enjoy (LOVE actually) yoga.
I feel great after a yoga class. My body feels good – I can tell I’ve gone to the edge but not pushed myself to a level of pain. I walk away after a yoga class feeling refreshed and almost zen-like.
Yoga has also helped me to find relaxation/peace. I’ve been struggling for the past two years since my father unexpectedly passed away. Yoga has been great for me these past nine months – I’m hooked!
I love working with Ashley. She has a great personality and is very quick to respond with how we can modify poses to work for me. I was so impressed how she did research on my cramping feet without me asking. It says a lot about her teaching.
So glad I met you!!!”

“I have struggled with a chronic/mystery sciatic-related pain in my left glute and hamstring for the past 5 years. I have seen physical therapists, massage therapists, orthopedics, sports medicine specialists, pain specialists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists, and have gotten little to no relief.
I have also struggled with anxiety since I was young. Over the years, this anxiety has taken the form of eating disorders, depression, and panic attacks, as well as physical manifestations such as ulcers, bouts of diarrhea and nausea, costochondritis, and fainting spells. I began taking prescription medication for my anxiety, which helped, but it also numbed all of my feelings and emotions, and had other undesirable side effects. When I decided to go off my medication, I knew I would need some help managing my anxiety, and thought yoga could offer some relief.
Ashley taught me a precise breathing exercise in our first session that instantly calms me down, eases my nausea, and allows me a moment of stillness. I have used this while driving through DC rush hour traffic, as a passenger on an airliner, and to help quiet my thoughts so I can get a restful night’s sleep.
I now also have the tools to help stretch and strengthen my muscles to keep me out of a cycle of pain, as well as the new body awareness and knowledge to help me prevent the pain.
I have more control now. I do not feel hopeless about the sciatic pain.I know how to address these issues myself!
I used to be afraid to do things for fear it would aggravate my pain. I was afraid to help shovel the driveway, lift weights at the gym, or bike around downtown DC. Now I know that if those things aggravate my glute or hamstring, I can take a few days and focus on gentle stretching, I can pull out the foam roller or the therapy balls and break up some of the tightness, or I can move through a yoga flow to loosen everything up.
I have more control over my emotions as well. Anyone with anxiety knows there is a lot of fear OF the anxiety itself. You may feel afraid of traveling, or driving, or social situations, or failure, but you are really afraid of feeling the anxiety. The breathing and mantras Ashley taught me are a way to combat that fear. I may know I will feel anxious, but I also know that I have a method that works for me to deal with the anxious feelings.”

“I initially came to yoga during a tense time and I wanted to relax and improve my flexibility. After working with Ashley, I’m able to see things a little more clearly and I feel like yoga movements are an absolute for my daily routine.
Ashley provided me with several yoga-based tools to integrate in my daily life. Not only did she work with me on physical poses, we talked about yoga principles and breathing techniques for relaxation.
The one-on-one experience offered me a depth of understanding that I had not obtained in group yoga classes before; Ashley was entirely flexible to my particular needs during our sessions.
I hope to continue working with Ashley in the near and long-term future as I develop and deepen my knowledge and yoga experience.”

“Yoga was highly recommended by my osteopath so that I could learn to correct old maladaptive postural habits. Ashley has the knowledge and expertise to design postures, stretches, and exercises that specifically address my issues. I feel that my body is learning new ways to move and rest, and the changes are really making a difference. I have hope that I can remain active and free of the injuries that have previously been brought on by maladaptive ways of using my body. I feel grounded in a way that I have never felt before, and I am sure that I am less likely to fall since working with Ashley. I feel like I have discovered my feet! Ashley just makes so much sense. Her comprehensive understanding of how bodies work allow her to see where the body is troubled, and she is inventive in designing exercises and other remedies. I also love the fact that she is happy to explain exactly what she is doing and why, so that I can use my brain to help my body!”
