Happy Blood Worm Moon!
March’s Full Moon is particularly special because there is a full lunar eclipse visible throughout North America! A lunar eclipse happens when the sun, moon, and Earth all align, with the Earth coming in between the moon and the sun to cast a shadow over the moon. While the Earth casts a full shadow over the moon, some of the sun’s rays still bend around the Earth, causing the moon to glow a reddish/orange color, hence the name Blood Moon. This will happen between ~1am-5am EDT on Friday, March 14. Either I’ll already have a baby and will be awake during this time, so guaranteed to see it, or I’ll be in the delivery room calling upon the tides of the full moon to help pull baby Z3(P0) out of my womb 🌝.
Find your balance
This full moon lunar eclipse invites you to find balance between routines, order, and organization in your day-to-day and your long-term “bigger picture” through spirituality, dreams, and spontaneity. We live in a chaotic, fast-paced, uncertain world (always, but most especially these days) and it’s useful to have a balance of both BIG dreams to keep you inspired alongside the daily routines, practices, and rituals that keep you grounded. The lunar energy this month is giving you a gentle nudge to move on in your life to your next big thing while still honoring your need to feel safe. It’s all about balance ⚖️.
This is where establishing solid practices and rituals comes in. What practices can most serve you right now in support of your dreams while helping you maintain daily order and a sense of control? These don’t have to be huge habits. Committing to just two minutes of movement, meditation, affirmation, mantra, breath can create significant shifts in your mindset. Those small steps every day build up to something bigger down the road. The thousand words a day eventually turns into a completed manuscript. The two minutes of meditation a day gives you the long-term sustenance you need to handle challenging times. A short walk can tone your muscles and practicing just one strength exercise can help you get stronger. It doesn’t take much!
As Patanjali says in the Yoga Sutra:
1.12: You can achieve the state of mind called yoga through practice and detachment
1.13: Practice means applying continuous effort toward steadying the mind
1.14: Steadiness of mind is achieved when one practices for a long time, consistently, without interruption, and with sincere devotion
All you need to do is show up consistently, continuously, with devotion.
Balance is not a myth
Balance doesn’t exist in time. If you’re measuring how much time you’re spending on meditating against how much time you’re spending on work or with your kids or sleeping, you’re never going to “get even.” At an energetic level, just a few minutes of meditation can be enough to help you feel “balanced” and ready to show up for the eight hours of work or the full day of mothering you’re about to embark upon. Trying to spend equal amounts of time on all your activities to get “balanced” is delusional. If you tried to spend six hours practicing yoga, six hours working, six hours mothering, and six hours sleeping…that just sounds silly. It’s not how the world works.
Balance is showing up for what matters most a little bit every day.
What do you need to show up for more in your life right now in order to make space for your Big Dreams? And how are you going to create a daily practice to make sure you do it?
This full moon lunar eclipse occurs right on the eve of the Spring Equinox. Spring is coming! We’re so close! 🌷
Spring energy prompts you to start blooming. So get out your journals and start dreaming. All of the earthly and celestial energies are coalescing right now to support you in your biggest, wildest dreams. Do you have the courage to heed Mother Nature’s call?
Here’s what you’ll do in this month’s class:
This month’s class is a recording of a Chandra Namaskar or Moon Salutation practice that you can do at any full moon. Like Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations, it’s a sequence of postures that provides an energetic boost; sun salutations increase your energy so you can get stuff done and shine your light, while moon salutations balance your energy so you can rest, find clarity, reflect, release, and embrace the darkness.
These moon salutations will help you establish the grounded foundation you need to feel secure, safe, and inspired enough to put your biggest dreams out there into the universe.
Props
A bolster/pillows, blankets, blocks will be nice for the restorative pose
Blocks can be helpful during the movement section
Have your journal handy to reflect on some of the contemplative inquiries
