January New Moon + Lunar New Year Nidra

Let go of the past and plant seeds for something new

Welcome to your first New Moon Nidra ritual of 2025! The first New Moon of the new year also marks Lunar New Year—2025 is the Year of the Snake.

The New Moon is a time to draw inward. It’s a great opportunity to revisit your sankalpa—your intentions for the year. The January New Moon is in Aquarius, inviting you to engage in transformation, creative thinking, and new possibilities. Plant seeds of change now so that you can nurture growth and revel in beautiful blossoms the rest of the year.

Snake and Aquarian energies combine this month to encourage you to do what is needed, even if what you need goes against cultural norms. The time has passed for pleasing others, playing nice, and giving up agency in your own life. Say no, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Say yes, even it makes you uncomfortable. Listen to your heart’s whispers, despite what others, or society, may think about them.

In order to move forward in your soul journey this year, you’ll need to release your attachment to the way things used to be, just as snakes shed their skin. Did you know snakes shed their skin an average of 2-4 times per year? Snakes represent what Clarissa Pinkola-Estés calls the Life/Death/Life cycle. Embodying the qualities of the snake guides you through a rebirthing process.

It’s time to create a new reality—your reality. Trust yourself.

Below you will find a ritual for celebrating the New Moon in Aquarius and the Year of the Snake. I’m really excited for you to listen to this month’s nidra—I loved writing the script. Even if you’re not in love with snakes, they represent intelligence, healing, transformation, and creativity. Embody these qualities as you listen to the nidra practice.
